Doug Baumgardt - Hammered Dulcimer

Doug has played the hammered dulcimer since 1996. Although not commonly found in traditional bluegrass bands, the hammered dulcimer has been played as a folk and classical instrument in many musical cultures around the world for over 1000 years. Doug also plays occasional mandolin and guitar. In addition to bluegrass, Doug plays a wide repertoire in solo and ensemble music, including Celtic, Appalachian and Old Time, French Canadian, traditional hymns, and classical music. Doug has also played Renaissance and Celtic music at the Maryland Renaissance Festival and at other historical settings. In addition to the hammered dulcimer, Doug has also played Old Time fiddle for over seven years and plays frequently in jam sessions in Baltimore and West Virginia. Doug is also an active choral singer, and has performed regularly in the Washington D.C. Christmas Revels ensembles  since 2001.
